We are a 5 minute walk to McGill University, and a 20 minute walk or a 15 minute bus ride to the University of Quebec at Montreal (UQAM). To get to Concordia University it is a quick 15 minutes on the Metro.
How do I apply?
First, we ask that you fill out a rental application. Here is what’s required:
  • I.D (passport or license) for all applicants and/or guarantor
  • First month’s rent (cheque or debit is accepted)
  • Proof of employment
  • An Equifax credit history report (which we will run for you)
For those with no credit in Canada you must provide: - A signed written statement offering to pay a deposit for the last month. This payment as well as the first month’s rent payment must be made at the signing of the lease OR - A guarantor (a person with good credit in Canada and an employment history) will have to come to sign the lease with you. Once that’s all done, you just need to sign some papers and you’re on your way to making LaCité your home away from home!
What is the pet policy?
LaCité is proud to accept animals!
How do I do my laundry?
Each building has it’s own laundry room, with a combined capacity of over 60 washers and dryers. All of our machines operate on the Coinamatic refillable SmartCard system, for your convenience.
Is there parking available?
Our residents get preferred pricing in an underground parking lot, accessed directly from our building.
What are the features of my apartment?
Unfurnished: Our units all come self-contained, with private washrooms and kitchens (with full sized fridges and stoves), air-conditioning and huge balconies. Furnished: All of our furnished suites include utilities, local phone with voicemail, high speed Internet, TV and cable package, free access to the LaCité Health Club (conditions may apply), fully equipped kitchen and bathroom with towels and linens, iron and board.
How secure are the buildings?
Every entrance requires a fob to access the lobby. We also have 24-hour on-site security.
Is this neighbourhood safe?
The area around LaCité is busy and lively at all hours of the day. We have bus stops directly outside our buildings, and the area is well lit.
How do I pay my rent?
For your convenience, we offer EFT (electronic funds transfer). It’s a secure transfer directly from your bank account, and it’s the safest and easiest way to pay your rent. We also accept cheques, interact and online payments.
When the rent is due?
As per the Quebec rental board, the rent for any lease signed in Quebec is due on or before the first of the every month.
How long is a lease?
The lease for our semi-furnished apartments is a minimum of one year as per the Quebec standards. You also have the option to arrange a private sublet or a lease transfer if you need the apartment for less than one year. This means you can find someone to take over your lease or you can make a private arrangement with them.
Do I need a co-signer?
Please see “How do I apply?”
Where can I buy groceries?
All of our buildings have a direct underground access to the shopping center Les Galeries du Parc, where you will find a major grocery store (Metro) as well as a smaller organic grocery store. This shopping center also has a pharmacy, a post office, a dollar store and much more. There will be no need to step outside during the cold winter months!
Do I need tenant insurance?
You can opt to take a home insurance policy to cover you for your personal belongings during your stay here. You may contact your bank or insurance company for more information.
Is a security deposit or application fee required?
As per Quebec law a landlord cannot ask for any deposit only the first months rent. But since you are a student and probably do not have a credit score or employment we require a guarantor to sign with you. If you don’t have a guarantor, the other option in order for your application to be accepted is to offer us the last months rent in lieu of a guarantor. This is totally your choice and if you decide to offer, we would accept.
Are there other students living at LaCité?
Because of our central location and close proximity to all of Montreal's major universities we have a large student base here at LaCité. But we also have so many apartments so that you will find a very diverse tenant population!
